In the Global scenario, psychosocial and emotional well-being of the people become great concern today due to the technological and cyber explosion, and the migration resulted by war and the natural disasters. This phenomenon has greatly affected familial and interpersonal relationship, and caused destabilization of social and moral values. There has been a wide gap between the young generation and of the old. In this context, a number of counselling and therapeutic centres have come up not only in the Global plain but also in India and recently in Kerala. In the pursuit of finding solutions to these problems, the Jesuits of Kerala already have begun 6 Counselling and Personality Develpoment Centers in Trivandrum, Kalamassery, Kalady, Kozhikode, Wayanad and now in Kottayam.

The Santhi Family Counselling and Personality Development Centre was inaugurated on 11th Sept 2018 by Shri Harishankar IPS, the District Police Chief of Kottayam and an alumnus of Loyola School, Trivandrum, presided over by Mrs Dr. Sona P.R. Municipal Chairperson, Kottayam, in the presence of many dignitaries like Dr. Sr. Joan Chunkapura and Navajeevan trustee, Mr PU Thomas. The Centre is a new venture of the Kerala Jesuit Society in Kottayam District, with the collaboration of common people in the locality. It is situated at Kumaranalloor, 3km from Kottayam town on the way to Ettumanoor.

This Centre offers services to people of all walks of life in their psychosocial, emotional and occupational realms. It also gives due care to the families and individuals belong to all stages of human development except the children below 9 years old. It extends its service to the couple and Pre- marital and Post- marital counselling for the youth. It also caters to the young and the old and provides group- counselling and therapy.

The functioning of the centre based on the principle of maintaining confidentiality in the counselling and therapeutic interventions. They would be the means and tools for rejuvenating the families and the persons as a whole and make the existing situation modify to the extent the cooperation of the family members and individuals are warranted. The centre is equipped with qualified Counsellors and Therapists who as a team work for the betterment of the clients and families. The team assesses the cases and diagnoses the problem posed and helps the individuals and groups to find the solutions themselves. The Centre is associated with the psychiatric departments of the nearby Hospitals and Alcohol and Drug de-addiction Centers and works as a referral center for these institutions.

Hence the Family Counselling and Personality Development Centre at Santhinilayam, Kumaranalloor, Kottayam is a guide and friend for those who seek for integral development of their personality. In a nutshell, it cares for the integration of families and promotes the interpersonal relationship.
